Gibbs becomes first female Longstreet Clinic President

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Longstreet Clinic has named Dr. Marti Gibbs as its next president and governing board chairman, making her the first female president in the clinic's 25-year history.

The clinic annouced the decision Thursday. Gibbs, a Jefferson native, is a board-certified family medicine physician and practices at the clinic's Oakwood location. She has been with Longstreet since 2001.

She has previously served on the clinic's governing board where she helped it adopt Patient Centered Medical Home best practices. Gibbs was also named as one of Atlanta Magazine's "Top Doctors" for five straight years from 2016 to 2020.

“Dr. Gibbs’ commitment to her patients and fellow physicians made her the ideal person to serve as president and board chair,” Longstreet Clinic CEO Mimi Collins said. “I am happy for her and excited for us as a group, as I think her leadership will serve us well as we begin a new decade filled with changes and challenges to providing quality, innovative health care in our region.”

Gibbs said she's looking forward to the opportunity to lead the clinic.

“My husband and I discussed what this position means thoroughly with our family and prayed about it through every step of the process,” Gibbs said. "I am honored to have this opportunity, and I’m ready to serve my fellow physicians, patients and Longstreet Clinic employees."

Gibbs takes the position amid the Coronavirus pandemic, with cases surging in Georgia in early July.

“This virus has already and will continue to shape the delivery of healthcare,” Dr. Gibbs said. “But with it comes the opportunity to serve our community and offer care and advice to our area. We are facing a ‘new normal,’ but, no matter the situation, we will continue to strive to meet the healthcare needs of northeast Georgia.”
