'Community Conversation' forum with local law enforcement continues tonight in Gainesville

By AccessWDUN Staff
Two weeks ago, Gainesville residents were invited to an open mic event in the midtown area to voice their concerns and complaints about local law enforcement.

Thursday, July 2, law enforcement agencies will be able to respond to what they heard on June 18. Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish and Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch are among those invited to speak.

The Newtown Florist Club is the sponsor of the Community Conversation series. The local social justice group initiated the forums after George Floyd was killed by a police officer in Minneapolis.

The event begins at 6 p.m. in the vacant lot at the end of the pedestrian bridge that spans Jesse Jewell Parkway in midtown Gainesville. Anyone who wants to speak at tonight's event needs to communicate first with event organizers at 770-718-1343 or via email at [email protected]. The event is open to anyone in the community.
