A 20-year-old Gainesville woman is dead following a single vehicle accident early Sunday morning in North Hall county.
Grechelle Enid Cuevas Lopez was a passenger in a 2009 Toyota Corolla that lost control just past Lanier Village Estates around 12:45 a.m. Sunday. Hall County Sheriff's spokesman Derreck Booth confirmed that Cuevas Lopez was ejected from the car.
"According to our initial findings, the driver was headed north on Thompson Bridge Road and lost control of it, and it began to rotate," said Booth. Then, he said the car vaulted off the northbound shoulder of the road, going down an embankment and hitting several trees. The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man was hurt, Booth said, but Lopez died at the scene.
"We do know at this point both occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts," said Booth.
Booth said the driver was taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Hall County Emergency Services took him by ambulance.
Booth said the initial investigation indicates the vehicle was headed northbound on Thompson Bridge Road and was at the intersection with Fraser Circle when the accident occurred.
The accident remains under investigation and Booth said they don't have any additional details about the crash right now.
