The Georgia Department of Transportation has named Kelvin Mullins as the new District Engineer for the Northeast Region of Georgia.

The Northeast Region is comprised of 21 counties, and Mullins will oversee programs, projects and activities in the region, according to information released this week by GDOT. Mullins will also be responsible for building partnerships with the public, state and local lawmakers, Chambers of Commerce and business leaders in the region.

Mullins will be taking the helm of the 21-county District that occupies the Northeast region of the State. He will oversee the District’s programs, projects, and activities in the region and will work to build partnerships with the public, state and local lawmakers, Chambers of Commerce, and business leaders in Northeast Georgia.

Mullins, who began his GDOT career in the Athens Area Office in 1997, holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Georgia Southern University. He has served in various leadership positions within the department throughout his career, most recently serving in dual roles as the Local Grants Administrator and as Technical Assistant to Mike Dover, P.E., Georgia DOT Deputy Commissioner.

"After more than 10 years downtown, I’m excited to ‘come home’ to District One where I started and spent the first 12 years of my career," said Mullins in a press statement. "Our region is diverse, stretching from the Appalachian Mountains in Union County all the way to the urban areas of Gwinnett and Forsyth Counties. Although these areas represent different challenges, the goal is always the same: to maintain and improve safety and mobility.”

Mullins, a Habersham County native, currently lives with his wife Erin and their two daughters, Hannah and Macie  in Forsyth County.

Georgia DOT District One office is located at 1475 Jesse Jewell Parkway Suite 100, Gainesville, GA 30501. The District also maintains Area Offices in Gainesville, Athens, Carnesville, and Cleveland.
