The same suspect that was impersonating a police officer in Gainesville earlier this week apparently has struck again in Dawson County.
In a social media post, Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson urged the community to be cautious following the Thursday night incident.
"We urge our commuters to please exercise caution and be vigilant if being stopped. Today’s patrol vehicles are equipped with excessive amounts of emergency lights. Knowing this, a single dash mounted strobe light should raise suspicion. Coupled with secluded areas should be of concern," Johnson said.
The incident in Dawson County reportedly happened along Highway 136. Johnson told news outlets the suspect was driving a dark-colored sedan with flashing blue lights on the interior. The driver and passenger in the vehicle told officers the suspect told them they were violating curfew.
The description of the vehicle is consistent with that in Tuesday's incident in the city of Gainesville. Police said the suspect pulled over a vehicle in the area of Jesse Jewell Parkway and Limestone Parkway in the New Holland community. The male suspect in that incident also told the occupant of the vehicle he had violated curfew.
Neither Gainesville nor Dawson County has a curfew, even though residents have been asked to stay home during the current coronavirus pandemic.
