SATURDAY EDITION: Around Northeast Georgia

*For the fourth year, the University of North Georgia has been designated as a 2019 Tree Campus USA. This honor shows that "UNG is dedicated to the environmental sustainability on its campuses and maintains green spaces for student health and enjoyment," said Dr. Allison Bailey, associate professor of environmental studies at UNG.

*Construction activity for the I-85 widening project in Northeast Georgia will require lane closures next week, Monday-Thursday, along the corridor in Gwinnett, Barrow, and Jackson counties from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. A single-lane closure will be utilized in the northbound, outside lane from Hamilton Mill Road in Gwinnett County to SR 211 in Barrow County.

*North Georgia Technical College recently signed an articulation agreement with Emmanuel College to allow additional courses to transfer beginning with the fall 2020 semester. Course credits in Diversified Agriculture, Criminal Justice, and Business Administration programs will transfer from NGTC to Emmanuel College. The old agreement spelled out transfer of course credits from NGTC’s Child Development program into Emmanuel’s Elementary Education program.

*Applications are now being accepted for the 2020 class of the Braselton Citizens Academy.  The classes are held from May to October on the third Thursday of each month from 6-8 pm. There are also optional other days for special tours and law enforcement ride-alongs. Applications will be accepted through May 1.  Download the application here.

*Dr. J. Kerry Waller, Associate Dean of Piedmont College’s Harry W. Walker School of Business, has been promoted to Dean.    Waller, who has served on the faculty at Piedmont since 2011, was named to the post following a national search and will begin his new duties July 1.

*Gainesville-based Longstreet Clinic is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.  The practice has since grown to include approximately 200 providers across 18 specialties in 11 cities.
