Winter weather closings, cancellations and delays

The following closures and schedule delays have been reported for Thursday afternoon through Friday morning:


  • Banks County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Friday, Feb. 21.
  • Gainesville City Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Friday, Feb. 21. If conditions worsen, an announcement will be made by 7:00 a.m. on Friday.
  • Hall County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Friday, Feb. 21. 
  • Stephens County Schools will be closed Friday, Feb. 21.
  • Lumpkin County Schools closed Friday, Feb. 21.
  • Riverside Military Academy will delay opening tomorrow, Feb 21, for 1 hour.
  • Lanier Christian Academy will be operating on a 2-hour delay beginning classes at 10:00 am.
  • White County Schools will be closed Friday, Feb. 21.
  • Lakeview Academy will delay the start of school until 10:30 a.m. for Friday, Feb. 21. 
  • Union County Schools closed Friday, Feb. 21, for students and staff.
  • Rabun County Schools will be closed Feb 21st due to weather and road conditions, for students and staff.
  • Forsyth County Schools on a two-hour delay.
  • Habersham County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Friday, Feb. 21.
  • Dawson County Schools will have an online learning day Friday, Feb. 21. Twelve-month employees should report when safe.
  • Towns County Schools will be closed and hold an online learning day on Friday, Feb. 21.
  • Elbert County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Friday, Feb. 21.
  • Hart County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Friday, Feb. 21. Breakfast will not be served.
  • Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School will be on a delayed 10 AM start tomorrow for all divisions. 


  • Sisu Integrated Early Learning will be closed Friday.
  • Joyland North Child Development Center in Clermont will delay opening until 8:00 am on Friday.
  • YMCA Child Development Center operating on a three-hour delay Friday.
  • YMCA Sunshine Pre-K Program to open at 9:30 a.m. Friday.
  • First Presbyterian Church Child Development Center will be on a 2-hour delay. The center will open at 8:30 a.m. and if the weather worsens, will follow the Gainesville City School System.


  • All campuses and centers of Lanier Technical College will be closed Friday, Feb. 21.
  • Truett McConnell University will delay opening until 10 a.m. on Friday, 2/21.
  • Four of the University of North Georgia campuses will delay opening tomorrow, Feb. 21, until 10 a.m. The campuses impacted are Blue Ridge, Cumming, Dahlonega and Gainesville. The UNG Oconee Campus will have normal operations with no delay. 
  • Brenau University - Gainesville and Norcross campuses, will open at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 21.


  • The Gainesville-Hall County Senior Life Center, including Meals on Wheels, will be closed Friday, Feb. 21. Meals on Wheels clients are encouraged to use shelf-stable foods. 
  • Gilmer County Courthouse and Gilmer County Government will delay opening until 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21.
  • Hiawassee City Hall will open at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21.


  • Richard Russell Scenic Highway (Ga. 348) is closed due to weather.
