Scam targets Habersham EMC members

By Regan Spinks, AccessWDUN Staff

Habersham EMC officials are warning members of a telephone scam targeting customers.

Several Habersham EMC members have recently reported receiving telephone calls stating that they must pay over the phone immediately or their service will be interrupted. However, officials maintain that member services representatives will never ask for payment over the phone and that the only way to make a payment via telephone is through the corporation’s automated service.

Habersham EMC members who receive a call are advised to hang up immediately and report the call to local law enforcement. Officials are also warning members to refrain from giving out any personal information to the callers.

HEMC members with further questions can contact a customer service representative at 706-754-2114, 706-865-4362 or 800-640-6812.
