Dawson County teacher arrested on charges of sexual exploitation of children

By AccessWDUN Staff

A teacher for the Dawson County School System has been arrested on charges of sexual exploitation of children and unlawful eavesdropping.

Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson confirmed the arrest of Ryan Dennis Coker, 38, of Dawsonville via email Tuesday night. Coker was arrested Tuesday and at last report remained in jail with no bond.

Johnson said his department began an investigation into Coker's activities earlier in the week after a local minor, claiming to be a victim, came forward. He said their investigation found Coker in possession of multiple photographs of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. In addition, Coker is accused of photographing and recording the activities of a person in a private place without that person's consent.

Dr. Damon Gibbs, the Superintendent of Dawson County Schools, said he was made aware of the arrest Tuesday.

"We have been informed by the Dawson County Sheriff's Office that a DCJHS/DCHS staff member has been arrested this afternoon," Gibbs said via email. "An investigation is underway and we are cooperating fully with the sheriff's office. The staff member has been placed on administrative leave at this time."

Johnson said the investigation into Coker's activities is ongoing.
