West Hall closes 2020 strong with win over Lumpkin

DAHLONEGA — West Hall closed out its 2020 season in impressive style Friday night with a 56-13 win over Lumpkin County in Region 7-3A action at The Burial Grounds.

The Spartans (4-6, 2-4 Region 7-3A) finished fifth in the region with two straight wins and completed one of the best season-to-season turnarounds in the area in 2020 after going winless in 2019. They finished just one game out of a possible playoff spot.

“I thought we really finished the year strong,” West Hall coach Krofton Montgomery said. “This will give us a lot of momentum going into next year.”

West Hall led 28-10 at halftime and took a 48-13 lead into the fourth quarter.

Senior quarterback Clayton Jenkins closed out the best season of his career throwing for 424 yards and three touchdowns. He finished the year with 1,957 yards passing for the Spartans.

Senior Rodrigo Lopez hauled in 238 yards receiving and a pair of TD grabs on the night. He finished the season with 1,015 yards receiving,w hich was good enough to lead Class 3A.

Tilil Blackwell had three touchdown runs, including a 60-yard blast. Josiah Henriques had two scores, one on a 67-yard pass and another on a 43-yard touchdown run.

Lumpkin County finished the season 0-10, its first winless season since 2006, and spent much of the year battling injuries and COVID-19 issues.
