The annual Lighting of the Chicken in the downtown Gainesville Square will take place virtually this year.
The lighting will be broadcast on Facebook at 5:30 p.m. Friday and will feature a special behind the scenes look at the chicken atop Main Street Market.
The annual lighting is typically scheduled at the end of Jingle Mingle, which was canceled this year due to the pandemic. That event usually takes place the Thursday before Thanksgiving each year, and is Christmas and holiday themed.
