The firefighters who are stationed at the Gainesville Fire Department's Station 2 now have a new home.
A formal ribbon cutting for the new facility at 1741 Cleveland Highway was held Thursday, Oct. 8.
Gainesville elected officials, project partners and community leaders participated in the event and took the first public tours of the new station, which replaces the department's oldest station on Holly Drive.
Construction of the new Station 2 was funded by SPLOST dollars. Fire department leaders say the location of the new station will help the department better serve the Limestone Parkway corridor and it offers emergency crews quick access to I-985.
