A Mt. Airy woman remains jailed in the death of a Toccoa man at a Habersham County home Saturday.
Kayla Maria Parker, 31, of Mt. Airy, is charged with murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and two counts of cruelty to children in the death of Joshua Matthew Canady, 37, of Toccoa, said Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Wurtz.
About 11:05 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, Habersham County E-9-1-1 Dispatch received an emergency call regarding a possible stabbing at 376 Ben Loudermilk Road, Mt. Airy.
Deputies responded and located the male victim on the floor of the home, administering CPR until Habersham County Emergency Services personnel arrived and took over emergency treatment.
Parker and two juveniles also were located in the home.
“All efforts to resuscitate Canady were unsuccessful and Canady was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Wurtz said.
Habersham County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigators were called to the scene.
Warrants on Parker were obtained late Sunday afternoon.
Parker currently is being held at the Habersham County Detention Center.
The investigation remains ongoing and further details will be released as they become available, Wurtz said.
