Stephens County manhunt results in three arrests

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley says three males who were the subject of a Sunday manhunt are in custody.

In an update to his social media alert regarding an ongoing manhunt for two or three males, Shirley said they lived several miles away.

Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Georgia State Patrol and SCSO Criminal Investigations Division had been searching for the individuals in the Defoor Road/Whispering Pines Road area, Shirley’s Facebook post states.

“They stole a vehicle, a black four-door Mazda,” Shirley’s post reads. “They entered an unlocked vehicle on Rock Creek Road and took items from the vehicle. The homeowner had a security system that included an outdoor video surveillance system as well.”

The homeowner pursued the men, but lost contact.

Shirley said the men crashed the Mazda on South Red Rock and fled on foot.

“Later this morning, the suspects took a white 2008 Ford Super Duty pickup with mild tinted windows,” Shirley’s post reads. “A private citizen saw the truck and attempted to stay with it while notifying 9-1-1. The citizen ultimately lost the truck.”

Shirley said a perimeter was established while other deputies and two private citizens assisted in attempting to locate the truck, which was found abandoned minutes later on Pinetree Road just off Whispering Pines Road.

The Lee Arrendale State Prison K9 Team was notified and assisted in searching an area in the Defoor Road/Pinetree Road/Rock Creek Road area, Shirley said.

No additional details about the individuals is immediately available.
