The Habersham County Sheriff's Office is warning of letters that claim the recipients owe tax money to the state.
The letter goes on to say if the recipients don’t respond by a certain date and pay in full certain actions will be taken such as "garnishment of wages and bank accounts."
A posting on the department's Facebook page says this is a scam, noting "this is not the way the State of Georgia notifies you that you owe taxes," adding, "please don’t fall for this."
