Sheriff: Wanted for murder, stabbing suspect shot by officers in Toccoa

The man accused of stabbing two Toccoa residents Monday night and then allegedly killing his wife after forcing her from that home was shot by officers Tuesday afternoon.

That’s according to a social media post by Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley.

Kenton Deshawn Hall, 48, of Toccoa, who was considered armed and extremely dangerous, had remained on the run as of Tuesday afternoon, said Police Chief Jimmy Mize.

“The suspect has been shot by law enforcement after he made an advance toward them,” Shirley’s Facebook post states. “The suspect is being airlifted to a trauma center.”

The body of Hall’s wife, 49-year-old Patricia Hall of Toccoa, was discovered in a heavily wooded area off East Franklin Street in Toccoa about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Mize said. The cause of death is still under investigation and pending an autopsy at the GBI State Crime Lab in Decatur.

Warrants for Kenton Hall were issued for the murder and kidnapping of Patricia Hall and for two counts of aggravated assault for Monday night’s stabbing victims.

Kenton Hall was on active felony probation and arrest warrants have been issued through that agency as well.

GBI agents have been requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Toccoa, but so far haven’t confirmed the identities of those involved.

Chief provides background

Toccoa police were called to 162 Mill St., Toccoa, just after 9 p.m. Monday regarding a person bleeding.

When officers arrived, they found Robert Maxwell, 64, of that address on a neighbor’s porch bleeding from multiple stab wounds, said Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize. Maxwell was attended by Stephens County Emergency Medical Services then flown to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon.

When officers checked the home at 162 Mill St., they located a second victim lying on the couch. Nancy Johnson, 66, also had multiple stab wounds and abrasions, Mize said.

Johnson was stabilized at Stephens County Hospital and later transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Kenton Hall had arrived at the Mill Street home and a disturbance ensued, Mize said. As he was leaving the home, he told Patricia Hall she was going with him and left the home on foot.

During the investigation, investigators determined that Patricia Hall, 49, of Toccoa was possibly injured and kidnapped.

After officers secured the scene, the Criminal Investigations Division unit responded to the scene and the hospitals, Mize said. The GBI was called in to assist in the investigation and crime scene processing.

Tracking dogs from Lee Arrendale State Prison were called to assist with tracking the suspect and victim. The Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit was called in to assist with its FLIR.

Toccoa police officers and Stephens County sheriff’s deputies searched the area and multiple other locations.

Stephens County Sheriff’s Office CID assisted with gathering information and helped search multiple addresses that were former addresses of the suspect, Mize said.

Authorities continue to search for Kenton Hall, who is considered armed and dangerous.
