Winder woman convicted in 2016 Rabun County vehicular homicides

A Barrow County woman charged in the deaths of two people in a Rabun County wreck on Oct. 18, 2016, has been convicted on seven of the charges she faced.

Kymbalee Ann Phillips, 30, was convicted Sept. 20 of two counts of first-degree vehicular homicide, two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, two counts of serious injury by vehicle, and reckless driving.

The wreck happened on Ga. 15/U.S. 441 at East Wolf Creek Road and resulted in the death of Rabun County residents Matthew Hester, 23, and Sarah Alice Bradshaw, 24.

Jonathan Wayne Hester and Kimberly Paige Rohletter, two other people seriously injured during the wreck, testified during the trial.

The jury trial before Judge Chan Caudell began Sept. 16 in Rabun County Superior Court and involved nearly three days of evidence prior to six hours of deliberation by the jury, according to District Attorney George Christian.

Phillips was acquitted of several other charges related to driving under the influence.

Assistant District Attorneys Rosanna Szabo and Anthony Pickett presented the case on behalf of the state.

Sentencing will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Rabun County Courthouse in Clayton.
