Gainesville man charged with distribution of sexually explicit videos featuring children

By B.J. Williams

A Gainesville man remained in jail Monday following his arrest last week for possession of sexually explicit videos featuring children.

Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman Derreck Booth said Mark Jason Wood, 44, was arrested Thursday, Aug. 15 at his residence on Whitmire Circle.

"Wood was charged with [an] exploitation count on the day of his arrest for being in possession of a video depicting minor children engaged in sexually explicit conduct and acts," Booth said in an email statement.

A day later, Wood was charged with additional counts of distribution of child sexual abuse material.

"Investigators obtained an additional arrest warrant for the distribution counts on Friday, Aug. 16, when examination of devices seized during the search of Wood’s residence revealed approximately nine videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct," Booth said.

Booth said the Hall County Sheriff's Office in cooperation with the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force detected the criminal activity during an online investigation that began on Aug. 3.

Wood is being held in the Hall County Jail with no bond.
