HABERSHAM--Officials say it is unclear why two people ran when Habersham County deputies arrived to help with a disabled vehicle Thursday.
At 10:55 a.m., deputies responded to the area of Ga. 365 South and U.S. 441 in Cornelia to assist a motorist whose vehicle had broken down on the side of the road, Lt. Matt Wurtz with the Habersham County Sheriff's Office said.
“While the deputy was speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, two of the occupants fled on foot,” Wurtz said. Due to “the description that was given by the deputy of the two subjects, along with information received from another occupant, it was believed that one or both of the occupants that ran were possibly wanted.”
According to Wurtz, in addition to the sheriff’s office, officers from Alto, Cornelia and Demorest police departments, the Georgia State Patrol and the Governor’s Task Force conducted a search of the area.
The two individuals who ran were located and arrested. Their identities have not been released.
“At this time it does not appear that these two individuals are wanted and it is also unknown why they fled on foot from the vehicle,” Wurtz said.
