Early-morning fire causes heavy damage to Maysville home

By Rob Moore

Firefighters from Banks County and Lee Arrendale State Prison spent nearly three hours extinguishing a house fire in Maysville Saturday morning.

At 3:10 a.m., units responded to a reported structure fire at 212 Mitchell St., according to Banks County Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols.

“Upon arrival, units found a single-family structure, one story with a full basement, with fire showing from the roof area,” Nichols said. “The fire caused heavy damage to the entire structure, with water and smoke damage also. The occupants were home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.”

Nichols said Banks County Fire is investigating the cause, but it appears to be accidental.

The American Red cross responded to assist the family with immediate needs.

Units worked the incident until 6 a.m.
