Six area soccer teams and one baseball team entered Tuesday's semifinal round of the GHSA state playoffs with the hopes of advancing to the finals.
Three soccer teams, Flowery Branch girls, Gainesville boys and Union County boys all advanced to the state title game.
Defending Class 5A boys soccer state champion Johnson was upset by Starr's Mill in Fayetteville and the Jefferson boys and girls soccer teams were eliminated on the road.
In baseball, Pace Academy rallied in Game 2 to sweep North Hall out of the Class 3A playoffs.
6:30 -- The Union County boys soccer team beat Vidalia, 3-0, to advance to the Class 2A state title game.
Brian Smith scored two goals and Kyler Robbins scored one in the win. The Panthers next will take on Thomasville at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Five Star Stadium in Macon for the Class 2A state title.

8:13 -- The Jefferson girls soccer team fell to Lovett, 1-0, in the semifinals in Atlanta. Chandler Kenney scored Lovett's lone goal in the third minute.
8:15 -- The Flowery Branch girls soccer team advanced to the Class 4A state championship game with a 2-1 win at Columbus. Larsyn Reid and Mollie Langner each scored to lead the Lady Falcons' comeback.
8:38 -- The Starr's Mill boys soccer team upset defending Class 5A state champ Johnson, 1-0, in Fayetteville. Jack Baker's free kick hit the crossbar and Jake Eubanks headed the ricochet into the back of the net for Starr's Mill's only goal in the 60th minute.
9:26 -- Pace Academy rallies in the fifth inning to sweep North Hall, 8-4 in Game 2.
9:35 -- The Westminster boys soccer team beat Jefferson, 3-0, in the Class 3A semifinals.
9:50 -- It took OT and PKs for the Gainesville boys soccer team to beat Cambridge at City Park Stadium and advance to the Class 6A title game.
