No. 5 UNG softball opens Regional with win over Lees-McRae

By AccessWDUN Staff

DAHLONEGA — Kylee Smith threw a one-hitter as the No. 5 University of North Georgia softball team bested Lees-McRae, 2-0, Thursday afternoon to advance in the NCAA Southeast Regional 1 at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.

The Nighthawks scored both runs in the third as Marley Stowers and Kaylyn Anthony scored on two Bobcat errors on the same play. That was all that Smith would need as she did not allow a runner past first base in the game.

NOTES
- Smith (28-2) struck out eight while surrendering just one hit and one walk.

- Olivia Sinquefield and Kali Turner each went 1-for-1 at the plate with Sinquefield drawing a walk as well.

- In the other game of the regional, Young Harris defeated Coker, 6-0.

NEXT UP
The Nighthawks will battle the Mountain Lions in a winner's bracket game tomorrow at noon. The winner will advance to Saturday while the loser will play again later in the day.
