No. 3 UNG softball finishes Gulf Coast Invitational with Sunday split

GULF SHORES, Ala. — The No. 3 North Georgia softball team split its final two games at the Gulf Coast Invitational Sunday afternoon.

GAME 1 - No. 22 Valdosta State 3, UNG 2
The Blazers got on the scoreboard first, scoring twice in the second inning. Dream Aaron started things off with a solo shot, followed by a Haley Garrett RBI double to put VSU up, 2-1.

The Nighthawks cut the lead in half in the top of the third when Shelby Hammontree singled to left field to score Hobby Gregory. In the fourth, Kali Turner brought home the tying run on a RBI groundout.

Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when VSU's Kiley Robb hit a solo homer to walk the game off.

GAME 2 - UNG 3, Mississippi College 1
North Georgia got on the board first in the final game of the Gulf Coast Invitational, scoring two runs in the fourth inning. Kaylee Womack started the scoring with a RBI single that scored Gregory before Katelyn Perry had an infield single to score Kelly Kahlert and put the Nighthawks up, 2-0.

MC got one back in the fifth inning on a RBI groundout, but UNG got the two-run cushion again in the sixth when Marley Stowers scored on a wild pitch to bring the game to its final score.

NOTES
- Abbie Crawford went 1-1 on the day, throwing a complete game in the finale. She struck out nine in the second game of the day.

- Lexi Duncan went 2-for-4 in the doubleheader.

NEXT UP
The Nighthawks will travel to Clearwater, Florida, to take part in the NFCA Leadoff Classic next weekend.
