PLAYOFF SOCCER: Jefferson boys eliminate East Hall on PKs; Union wins on late header

By AccessWDUN Staff

After 80 minutes and an overtime period, the No. 6-ranked Jefferson boys soccer team and fourth-ranked East Hall remained scoreless in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs in Jefferson.

The next step, penalty kicks.

Each team had five opportunities to score and Jefferson goalkeeper Javy Flores told his team to jump on his back.

Flores denied all five East Hall (14-4, Region 7-3A No. 2 seed) PKs and converted Jefferson’s lone penalty kick to send the Dragons (16-2, Region 8-3A No. 1 seed) to the quarterfinals for the first time in the program’s history.

The Dragons will host the winner of Worth County/Tattnall game on Wednesday.

UNION COUNTY 3,
GORDON CENTRAL 2

Kobi Robbins headed Brian Smith’s throw-in into the net with 34 seconds remaining to lift the Panthers past Gordon Central Thursday on the road.

The Panthers trailed 1-0 at the half and fell behind, 2-0, early in the second half.

Union scored twice within two minutes. Dalton Allen blasted a free kick for the Panthers’ first score with 24 minutes left. A couple of minutes later, Union found the net again.

The Panthers will host Jeff Davis (Region 2-2A No. 4 seed) on Wednesday.
