Track and field: Jefferson teams rolling after opening day at 8-3A meet

COMMERCE — The Jefferson boys and girls track teams lead after the opening day of the Region 8-3A track and field meet held at East Jackson High School on Wednesday.

The Lady Dragons piled up a huge 105-point total, which was more than the second through fourth place teams Franklin County (43), Morgan County (34), and Monroe Area (26) combined. They were fueled by wins from JoJo Smith (high jump), Anna Moore (pole vault), Jada Pittman (long jump), Aleah Benton (triple jump), and Ellie Isaacs, who won the shot put and finished second in the discus. Caitlin Schroeder and Katherine Law finished 1-2 in the 1,600-meter run.

For the boys, Jefferson holds a 13-point lead over Hart County (75-62) getting wins from Jason Burke (high jump), Garmon Randolph (triple jump) and Robbie Head (discus). East Jackson all of its 10 points from Shane Shelafoe, who won the 1,600-meter run.
