Banks County issues Boil Water Advisory after large line break

Banks County Water System customers in the southern part of the county should boil any water for consumption until further notice.

“Banks County has experienced a large water leak due to a large line break caused from the April 19 flooding disaster,” said Banks County Emergency Management Agency Director Deidra Moore. “When this type of break occurs, a potential health hazard may exist in areas which had zero pressure from back-flow and/or back- siphonage of water of unknown quality into the water distribution system. In order to protect the public from a potential health hazard, Banks County Water customers in the southern area of Banks County, from Hebron Road and south to the Madison and Jackson County boundaries and all citizens that experienced water outages and/or low pressure in this area, are advised to boil any water prior to use for drinking, cooking or preparing any food.”

Water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil.

Customers should continue to boil their water until they are notified by the Banks County Water Department that the water system has been restored to full operation, and that the microbiological quality of the water in the distribution system is safe for human consumption.

The Banks County Water Department will post a notice when this boil water advisory has been lifted.

To report water problems after hours, call (706) 677-1234 and report the problem.

The Banks County Water Department number is (706) 677-2261.

The Banks County announcement came just as Commerce officials lifted a Boil Water Advisory for that city’s customers in the Banks Crossing area Saturday night.
