GAINESVILLE — Lakeview Academy swept Athens Christian Thursday in Region 8-A soccer action on Senior Night.
The Lakeview girls whipped the Lady Eagles 10-0 behind a pair of hat tricks from Millie Filson and Sara Nivens while the boys took a slim 2-1 victory in the nightcap.
In the boys match, Whit Coyle, assisted by Jack Kubiak, scored first for the Lions and Athens Christian later tied the score at 1-1 before halftime. In the second half, Kubiak found the back of the net off a deflection giving Lakeview the eventual game-winner. Lakeview senior goalie Palmer Ferguson played a strong defense fighting off the Eagles with 10 saves for the game.
In the girls match, Filson and Nivens led the way. Seniors Sadie Thrailkill and Esther Suen each scored as well as Ellie Kate Madonna and Hannah Perkins. Celia Wilson-Patino earned the shutout in goal.
The Lady Lions play on Monday at home against Athens Academy at 7:30 in a crucial region battle for first place.
