By Rob Moore

The victim of an early-morning stabbing Thursday in Baldwin is recovering from his injuries.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. Thursday at 296 Willow Tree Avenue, Baldwin, according to Nelly Miles of the GBI.

Baldwin Police Department initially was called to the reported stabbing, then requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.

“Upon arrival, officers found a resident of the home, Matthew Cory Jones, 28, with multiple stab wounds to the abdomen,” Miles said.

The investigation resulted in the identification and arrest of Tidous Mitchell Thomas, 27, of Madison, and Jonathan Michael Wallis, 29, of Lawrenceville, for aggravated assault, according to Miles.

Thomas and Wallis were arrested by GBI Agents and the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office at around 6 a.m. in the Walmart parking lot in Dahlonega, Miles said.

Thomas and Wallis were transported to the Habersham County Detention Center, where they await court proceedings.

Jones was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical center, where he underwent surgery and is in stable condition, according to Miles.

Miles said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may follow.
