UPDATE: Tennis: GHS, North Hall, Branch sweep, Johnson girls win in region play

MT. AIRY — The Gainesville boys tennis team took an impressive 5-0 win over Habersham Central Tuesday in Region 8-6A action.

Dylan Pineda at No. 1, Philip Mady at No. 2, and Ben Burns all got straight-set wins in singles.

The No. 1 doubles team of  Michael Head and Caleb Anderson won 6-1, 6-2 and the No. 2 doubles of Matthew Carter and Luke Griffin took a 6-1, 6-1 victory to complete the sweep.

The Red Elephants next will play host to North Hall at Longwood Park on Wednesday in a non-region matchup for both teams.

The Gainesvile girls made it a sweep on the day knocking off the Lady Raiders 4-1 to remain undefeated in region play.

The Lady Red Elephants got a win from Hannah Williams at No. 1 singles and Callie Patterson and Grayson Wagner (No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-2) and Savannah Brown and Hannah Wagner at No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-1). Habersham Central forfeited the singles 3 match.

 

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 4,
WHITE COUNTY 1

The Lady Falcons took a solid wn over the Lady Warriors in Region 7-4A action Tuesday in Cleveland.

For Flowery Branch, Annabelle Thomas, Alyssa McSpadden, and Olivia Nance dropped just one game combined in sweeping the singles.

In doubles action, Julianna Velaj and Traci Timmons got a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles. White County's only win came at No. 2 doubles where they rallied from a set down against the Lady Falcons' Madison Sedwick and Kim Raddatz for the win.

WHITE COUNTY 0

The Flowery Branch boys also took a big region in Cleveland shutting out the Warriors.

Drayton Matus, Jack Thomas and Caden Caldwell won in straight sets in singles. The No, 1 doubles team of Mauricio Castro and Nate Shedd and the No. 2 team of Gunnar Hetzel and David Eskew also got straight-set wins.

 

NORTH HALL GIRLS 5,
CHEROKEE BLUFF 0

The Lady Trojans remained unbeaten in Region 7-3A after another dominating performance Tuesday without losing a single gam as every match was decided in a 6-0, 6-0 fashion.

In singles, Anna Montgomery beat Erin Rose, Lauren Davis defeated Alluuson Fletcher, and Baylee Turner knocked off Belle Murphy. In doubles action, Sydney Patterson and Raquel Kallab beat Ellie Smith and Emma Ross at No. 1 and Ella Oxley and Lauren White defeated Lily Petty and Hollis Martin at No. 2 to complete the sweep.

North Hall improved to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in region play.

 

NORTH HALL BOYS 4,
CHEROKEE BLUFF 1

The North Hall boys used a doubles sweep to beat Cherokee Bluff in amatch that tighter than the final score.
 
In singles, North Hall's Ethan Surles rallied to beat Brady Millwood 0-6, 7-5, 1-3 (ret) at No. 1 after Millwood had to retire despite being up in the third set. At No. 2, Kody Dills won a pair of tiebreakers to nip Brady McKay 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) in a back-and-forth match. Bluff got its only win at No. 3 as Zach Scuff rallied to beat Jonathan Elder 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.
 
In doubles, North Hall's No. 1 team of Forrester Terry and Jackson Roush beat Mason Smith and Dillon Orth 6-1, 6-1 while Noah Wagner and Jake Bennett defeated Justin Santana and Cada Ellis 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
 
The North Hall boys improved to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in region play.

 

JOHNSON GIRLS 5,
CEDAR SHOALS 1

The Lady Knights took a Region 8-5A win Tuesday over the Lady Jaguars.

Anna Cooper, Morgan Langley, and Haley Grimes all took straight-set wins in singles for Johnson.

The doubles teams of Zoey Blankenship and Beth Odum and Grace VanHooser and Viviana Medina also got wins in straight sets for the Lady Knights.
