UPDATE: Soccer: No. 6 GHS boys remain in first place in 8-6A; Lakeview girls rout George Walton

BETHLEHEM — The Class 6A fifth-ranked Gainesville boys remained into a first place tie with Dacula after an 8-0 blowout win over Apalachee on the road Tuesday night.

Eduardo Bautista and David Esquivel led a clean sheet for the defense, which registered its fourth shutout of the season and has not allowed more than two goals in any match this season.

For the offense, Armando Hernandez had a goal and 4 assists while Anthony Alday added two goals for the Red Elephants (10-1, 5-1 Region 8-6A). Elvis Bonilla scored on a 35-yard screamer, while Miguel Santana, Bryan Lopez, Aram Lara, and Bautista all scored as well for Gainesville.

It was the second win of the season over the Wildcats for the Red Elephants, who play host to Habersham Central on Friday.

The Class A No. 10-ranked Lakeview Academy girls soccer team routed George Walton Academy Tuesday at home.

It was the fifth straight win for the Lady Lions (6-2).

Lakeview went up 3-0 at halftime on goals from Maddy Towles, Lauren Scott, and Hannah Perkins. Millie Filson exploded in the second half for the Lady Lions scoring a hat trick for the fourth straight game. Sadie Thrailkill and Lauren Scott also scored in the second half.

Thrailkill also led a strong defensive effort in front of keeper Celia Wilson-Patino, who recorded her second shutout of the season.

The Lady Lion next will travel to Tallulah Falls on Thursday before a big showdown with Athens Academy on Monday in a battle of Region 8-A unbeatens.
