UNG men's golf in 6th after opening two rounds at GSW Hurricane Invitational

AMERICUS — Tanner Merck shot a one-over 145 in the opening two rounds as the North Georgia men's golf team finished play Monday in sixth place in the GSW Hurricane Invitational.

Merck finished the day shooting rounds of 70 and 75 to sit in a three-way tie for 10th place, just three shots out of the top five. Austen Heider is one shot back of Merck after rounds of 72 and 74 on the opening day of the tournament.

The Nighthawks shot a 592 Monday in the two rounds, good for sixth place, two strokes ahead of West Georgia and two strokes behind Georgia College and the host school, Georgia Southwestern. Southern Arkansas leads the tournament after shooting even-par 576. Young Harris is in second, four strokes behind Southern Arkansas, while Clayton State is in third, nine strokes off the pace.

The tournament will conclude with a final round on Tuesday.
