Playoff basketball: Dawson boys march on; LCA girls in the title game; Towns falls on the road

DAWSONVILLE – The Dawson County Tigers continued their march toward Macon Thursday night at home.

Luke Chism poured in 18 points and pulled 6 boards to lead the Tigers (26-4) past Westminster 62-40 in the second round of the Class 3A state playoffs. Eli Burruss scored 9 points and Jasper Gibson had 8 in the win. 

Dawson will host Class 3A at-large seed Franklin County from Region 8-3A Wednesday at 7 p.m. 

The Tigers balanced attack and the defensive game plan worked to perfection, holding Westminster to just 15 first-half points. Dawson led 32-15 at the break. 

The win marks the 10th-straight for the Tigers and will be their first appearance in the state quarterfinals since the 2012 season.

THE KING'S ACADEMY 21

Lanier Christian knocked off King's Academy to advance to its second-straight GICAA Division II-AA championship game later this month. 

Faith Wasden led the Lightning with 14 points and Madison Hughes added 10 and 9 rebounds in the win.

LCA jumped out to a 22-11 lead by the half, then outpaced King's Academy 23-10 in the second to seal the win.

Vanessa Floyd led the Towns County (14-12) with 17 points in the loss to Calhoun County in the second round of the Class A Public playoffs Thursday night on the road.
