Boys soccer: Knights' Bowen signs with Georgia State

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

OAKWOOD — Senior Johnson keeper Cooper Bowen put his dream on paper Thursday as he signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer at nearby Georgia State.

The ceremony was held Thursday at the Johnson media center with friends, family, and coaches present.

Bowen, who will be a senior for Johnson this season, has been a fixture between the posts for the Knights over his prep career and was instrumental in helping them capture their first-ever state title last year. Since Bowen assumed the starting role as a freshman, the Knights are 56-7-3 overall. He has 188 career saves and has allowed just 33 goals in 66 appearances. He has allowed no goals in 32 career games to this point.

Bowen made huge 8 saves, including three incredible acrobatic stops on shots within 5-yards in a 30-second span, to preserve the Knights' heart-stopping 1-0 victory over McIntosh in the 2018 Class 5A finals.

The Knights and all the northeast Georgia area programs are getting prepared to kickoff their seasons next week. Johnson opens defense of its title at home on Tuesday against Jefferson.
