Clay wins Gainesville City Council election; Thompson, Brooks return to office unopposed

Brenau University professor Dr. Juli Clay has an additional title after Tuesday's General Election  - Gainesville City Councilwoman. 

Clay, the Assistant Vice President for Executive Programs for Brenau, is a political newcomer, who won her first race by capturing 72.28% of the vote for Gainesville's Ward 5 post. 

Clay and local businessman Bill Bush had sought the seat being vacated by the retirement of longtime City Councilwoman Ruth Bruner. Bruner will leave office at the end of the year. 

Clay picked up 858 votes in the race; Bush received 328 votes.

Incumbent Barbara Brooks was unopposed in her re-election bid for Ward 3, while incumbent Zack Thompson ran unopposed for Ward 2 on the council.
