Morgan House, a Gainesville native who spent three years as the Venue Manager at Lake Lanier Olympic Park, has announced his first foray into politics.
House made his announcement Sunday evening, declaring his candidacy for the Ward 1 seat on Gainesville City Council. So far, his competition for the post is Mayor Danny Dunagan who announced in April he will not seek re-election as mayor, but instead will run for city council.
House said as a native of the city, he understands the needs of the community.
"Ever since I was eight years old, I realized just how special this town was and continues to be," House said. "Because of my involvement with the 1996 Olympic legacy program created by Gainesville Hall 96 in 1995, I was afforded the opportunity to travel the world pursuing my Olympic dream in Sprint Kayaking. During which time, I visited over twenty countries, lived in San Diego for five years, and Hawaii for nearly a year. I get asked all the time why I would leave a place like Hawaii to live in Gainesville. The answer is simple. It is my home."
House is a graduate of Gainesville High School and a graduate of Ashford University. He is currently enrolled in an MBA program with a concentration in marketing through Brenau University.
