BLAIRSVILLE — Union County started slow but ended fast in a 43-0 win over Oglethorpe County Friday night at Mike Colwell Memorial Stadium.
The Panthers (8-0, 5-0) led 8-0 with less than 9 minutes in the first half before senior quarterback Pierson Allison caught fire.
Allison, making his first start since early October, used a couple of squirts of WD-40 to shake the rust and went to work. He tossed two touchdowns late in the opening half, one to Cayden Rich and Sawyer Drake to separate themselves, 23-0, and calm the nerves of the Panther faithful.
In the second half, Mason McCombs nailed a 23-yard field goal and Sloan Sutton drove in from 2 yards out to push the lead, 33-0 with 3:49 to go in the third quarter.
McCombs added another chip shot from 28 yards and Sutton capped the night with a 25-yard touchdown run.
Union will travel to Social Circle on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
