FORT OGLETHORPE, Ga. — It came down to a fourth down conversion for the win. Union County converted.

Freshman quarterback, Kamden Kendrick hit Maddox Young on a 20-yard touchdown pass with 1:50 left in the fourth quarter to lift the Panthers (3-3, 2-1 Region 7-2A) to a 40-33 road win over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe on a rare Monday night game. The game was moved from Friday to Monday due to Hurricane Helene.

Young converted the two-point play to make it a seven-point game. The Panthers’ defense stopped the Warriors on their 59 to preserve the win.

Kendrick finished the night with 305 yards passing and three touchdowns. Conner Schuknecht rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns. Tyler Parker hauled in 120 yards and three scores, including a 60-yard and 40-yard TD, and Young finished with 99 yards and a TD.

The Panthers led at halftime, 13-14, but the Warriors (1-4, 0-3 Region 7-2A) scored on their first drive of the third quarter to take the lead, 14-13. However, with 3:28 left in the third quarter, the Panthers had taken a 26-14 lead.

The Warriors outscored the Panthers 19-14 in the final 15 minutes.

Union County will continue the Northwest Georgia tour at Ringgold on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
