BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. – It took three overtimes, but Sonoraville found a way to knock off Union County Friday night, 32-30.
The game was tied 7-7 at halftime before both offenses came alive. Kamden Kendrick got the Panthers on the board first in the third quarter on a pass to Maddox Young to take a 14-7 lead, but Sonoraville answered with a scoop-and-score to tie the game back up. Kendrick again put Union County in front late in the third with a 1-yard rushing score, but again the visitors tied the game up in the fourth quarter at 21-21.
Regulation would end at the same score, setting up the overtime periods. Union County hit a field goal to start the first overtime and then held Sonoraville to a field goal of their own. After the Phoenix scored a touchdown but failed on the two-point try in the second overtime, the Panthers rushed in but also failed on the two-point try, setting up the two-point tries in the third overtime.
Sonoraville held on Union County's try and then converted their try to win the game in three overtimes.
Union County will host North Cobb Christian next week to close out the regular season.
