Retired, longtime Gainesville school official dies

A retired, longtime Gainesville school official, former Asst. Supt. Otis Ellenberg,  has died.

Ellenberg, 90, died Wednesday at Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.

He served for five years as principal of Gainesville Junior High School before becoming the Assistant School Superintendent of the Gainesville City Schools, a job he held for  25 years. Ellenberg finished his career as Senior Specialist for the state Department of Education.

Graveside services will be held Monday, October 21 at 3:30 pm, at Alta Vista Cemetery.
