Kennedy announces retirement, Lakeview begins search for new Head of School

By B.J. Williams

After spending nine years at the helm of Lakeview Academy, the Head of School for the private academy in Gainesville is stepping down.

Dr. John P. Kennedy was installed as the Head of School in August 2010.

The Board of Trustees announced it will begin a new search right away to find a replacement for Kennedy, who will stay on the job through the end of the current school year.

"I want to thank Dr. Kennedy for his leadership over the past nine years,” said Lakeview Board Chairman Clay Eubanks in a press release issued Wednesday afternoon. "Under his watch, Lakeview has strengthened its reputation as a first-class private school serving youth and families throughout the Northeast Georgia region."

In his statement, Eubanks also acknowledged Kennedy’s role in overseeing the school’s recent strategic planning effort and successful $3 million capital campaign that led to the opening of Singleton Hall, a new middle school building on the Lakeview campus. Named for former Head of School Ferrell Singleton, the building opened for students in 2017.

"Our Board is committed to hiring new leadership that continues to push Lakeview to even greater heights while providing the best return on the education investment of our school parents – and most importantly, the brightest future possible for every one of our students," Eubanks said.

Kennedy, who holds degrees from the University of Dayton and the University of Minnesota, came to Lakeview from St. Anthony Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas.
