Lakeview Academy’s Upper School robotics teams each walked away with trophies at the North Region Robotics Tournament on Jan. 25.
The schools’ varsity team was recognized as one of the top seeds entering the competition. The team received the Connect Award, which recognizes a team’s efforts in community outreach and collaboration with STEM professionals.
The Varsity team’s collaboration with local STEM professionals included interactions with experts from ZF and Harris Products Group. Additionally, Lakeview’s teams consulted with a professor from the University of North Georgia to expand their knowledge of the STEM field.
Lakeview’s junior varsity team was awarded the Innovate Award for their claw design. Additionally, the schools’ C team, which is only for eighth and ninth grade students, advanced to the event’s grand final match.
“We couldn’t be prouder of our robotics teams,” said Mikhail Lovell, head coach of the Galactic Lions and Technology Director at Lakeview Academy said in a release “Their hard work, creativity, and commitment to excellence were evident throughout the tournament. These achievements reflect not only their technical skills but also their ability to work together as a team and connect with the broader STEM community.”
Based on their performance at the region competition, both Lakeview’s Varsity and C teams will advance to the GeorgiaFIRST FTC State Championship, which will take place at Riverside Preparatory in Gainesville on Saturday, Feb. 15th.
This year’s trip to the State Championship will mark the seventh time in eight years that Lakeview will have a team at the State Championship. Two years ago, Lakeview earned a spot at the Robotics World Championship.
“The accomplishments of our robotics teams are a great example of the innovation and teamwork we cultivate at Lakeview Academy,” John Simpson, Lakeview’s head of school, said. “Their success highlights the power of hands-on learning and the importance of fostering a passion for STEM from an early age.”
