One lucky feline is ending his summer much better than it started, with a new home and a new lease on life thanks to the people at the Hall County Animal Shelter.
Gizmo arrived at the Animal Shelter in early May with a broken back. While the veterinarian team at the shelter hoped Gizmo's back would heal with some rest and pain management, six weeks after his arrival, his back issue remained.
"Our veterinarian, Dr. Meghan Seabolt, noticed that Gizmo's tail had not regained normal function," said Danielle Busch, program coordinator for the shelter. "So she decided to put Gizmo under general anesthesia and amputate his tail in order to prevent further medical issues associated with a non-functioning appendage."
Busch said the kitten quickly healed from the surgery and his previous injury. It wasn't long before Gizmo was moved into the adoption unit, where he was soon adopted.
"Gizmo's new owner says he has the best personality and is 100-miles-a-minute all the time," said Busch.
A new lease on life and a new home aren't the only changes that occurred for Gizmo this summer. He also has a new name that's perfectly suited for a cat with no tail. His new owner calls him "Stubs."
