A 68-year-old woman is dead after investigators said she was hit by a tow truck on Old Cornelia Highway Monday evening.
Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Auston Allen said for some unknown reason Etta Lewis of Gainesville was in the roadway near Oconee Circle just before 5:30 p.m.
Allen said the driver of a flatbed tow truck, Jeffery Passmore, 49, of Gainesville was unable to swerve in time to miss her and she was struck by the right corner of the truck and died at the scene.
Georgia State Patrol said no charges will be filed in the accident.
