BBQ grill blamed for Sunday morning house fire

A family of three and a dog are displaced after a fire in Lawrenceville early Sunday morning.

Gwinnett County Fire Services Driving Engineer Justin Wilson said Sunday, the fire started shortly after 3:00 AM at a home on Ashland Manor Lane. Crews were alerted when a neighbor called 9-1-1.

Wilson said crews arrived to find the two-story, split-foyer home heavily involved in flames. He added the residents were able to get out thanks to working smoke alarms. He said the home sustained heavy fire damage to the top story and smoke and water damage throughout the rest of the home.

He added the home next door sustained damage to the vinyl siding due to hear from the fire.

Wilson said the cause of the fire appears to have started from an outside, unattended barbecue grill.

Displaced are three adults and one dog. Assistance from The Red Cross was declined.
