Community survey underway for Flowery Branch golf cart use

By B.J. Williams

If the city of Flowery Branch wants to allow golf cart use on certain public streets, then it has to have a plan in place. To that end, the city has set up an online community survey to get the ball rolling on a PTV ordinance.

The most common PTV, or Personal Transportation Vehicle, is a golf cart, a mode of transportation used in some of the larger subdivisions in the Flowery Branch city limits.

Currently, there is no plan in place for the use of such vehicles, but because of increasing numbers of PTVs, council has decided to devise an ordinance to regulate their use.

According to the Flowery Branch website, state law requires the city to submit a plan - complete with a map of acceptable streets, a permitting process and safety regulations - for the use of PTVs.

The online survey is the first step in the process so city officials can determine what residents want when it comes to PTV use in Flowery Branch.

The deadline to complete the survey is August 24.  A draft PTV plan for public review will be released a week later. City Council would take up the issue first at a September 6 work session and then adopt the plan on September 20. The ordinance is expected to become effective on September 24.
