Those powerful thunderstorms that roared through parts of north Georgia early Saturday caused some damage in the Gainesville area.
Capt. Bobby Ogletree of Hall County Fire Services says there was a tree down on Morningside Drive during the storms.
"We did have units respond to (the 4500 block of Gillsville Highway) for an apparent lightning strike to a home," he added. "Homeowner reported a smoke odor in a residence and crews located a small fire in the laundry room. There were no injuries reported related to this incident."
Postings on social media by people living in the Gainesville area also told of a downed tree and damage to docks on Lake Lanier.
The worst of the storms struck about 4:30 with high winds, torrential rains, and strong, gusty winds.
