Police: "Nothing suspicious" about woman found dead in car outside Gainesville motel

By B.J. Williams

It has been one week since the body of woman was discovered in a vehicle outside a Gainesville motel, and police investigators are still piecing together evidence in the case.

Over the weekend, the Hall County Coroner's Office identified the woman as 63-year-old Dorothy Bailey.

Since then, Gainesville police have confirmed that Bailey had apparently come to Hall County from Baltimore, MD. They believe she was in Gainesville because her mother is in a nursing home in the area, according to Cpl. Jessica Van, spokesperson for the Gainesville Police Department.

"I was informed by investigators that nothing appears suspicious at this time," Van said in an email.

She said investigators are looking into the possibility that Bailey had been living in her car outside the Budgetel Inn & Suites on Jesse Jewell Parkway. She said Bailey might also have been a guest at the motel at one point.

An autopsy was performed on Bailey's body, but at last report, there was no word on her cause of death.
