The Gainesville Farmer's Market is in a new location this year. Instead of on the downtown square, the market will be just off the square on Broad Street.
"This year we've moved ourselves over to the parking lot next to Engine 209 Park. The address is 323 Broad Street, but basically it's the corner of Jesse Jewell and West Academy Street," said Market Manager Steve Thomas.
Thomas said the new location is just temporary due to construction starting on one side of the square.
"We didn't want to, one, add to the traffic problems during construction and, two, we didn't want to deal with traffic problems during construction."
Next year, he said more construction will take place where they are temporarily located, so they will be back on the square.
"The parking lot next to us, they're building an office building. And the parking lot we're in this year, next year, they'll build an apartment building," said Thomas.
The market features a variety of items to purchase, including farm fresh food, ready-to-eat food, and handmade crafts; it will also feature live music.
The market opens May 25 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will be open every Friday until October 5.
