North Habersham student faces felony charges after bomb threat

CLARKESVILLE — Habersham County School Superintendent Matthew Cooper has confirmed that the student responsible for last week’s bomb threat and evacuation at North Habersham Middle School has been identified and charged in the incident.

“I am pleased to confirm that the student responsible for the bomb threat hoax at North Habersham Middle School has been identified and charged by law enforcement,” Cooper said in a written statement.

“The student responsible for the hoax was charged on Tuesday,” Cooper’s statement reads. “It is my understanding that the juvenile is being charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor. The juvenile is also facing the most severe disciplinary consequences possible through the school system and will not return to the school. Because the student is a juvenile, no other details are being released.”

Cooper’s statement praised the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and NHMS administrators for their work to investigate and solve the case.

“The safety of our students is our No. 1 priority in the Habersham County School System, and we will continue to put this priority into action every day,” Cooper’s statement reads.

Cooper said the written statement contains the only comments he will be making about the situation.
