Thompson, Pettitt win Hall County School Board contests

By B.J. Williams

Two Republican candidates for the Hall County Board of Education, who faced challenges from Democrats, won their races on Tuesday.

Bill Thompson will return to the board's at-large post with his defeat of Stephanie Lopez.

"I’m so proud to have so many people in Hall County that have once again placed their faith and trust in me to be on the HCBOE," Thompson said in a written statement. "I'm blessed."

Newcomer Mark Pettitt defeated William Wallace for the opportunity to represent Post 2 on the school board.

“I am incredibly grateful to the voters for entrusting me to serve,” said Pettitt.  “My goal is to work hard each day so that Hall County Schools are the safest place for our students to learn and grow. There is no doubt that this is the honor of a lifetime.”

Incumbent Sam Chapman faced no opposition, so he returns to the board as the Post 1 representative.
